IBM Support

WebSEAL fails to start with File size limit exceeded error

Troubleshooting

Problem

IBM Access Manager for Web (formally e-business) WebSEAL fails to start with a 'File size limit exceeded' error message.

Symptom

Starting the: webseald-default
/usr/bin/pdweb: line 255:  1840 File size limit exceeded${AMWEBBINDIR}
/webseald -config etc/webseald-${INSTANCE}.conf > /dev/null 2>&1
ERROR: Could not start server

Resolving The Problem

This error typically indicates that one of the WebSEAL output logs has exceeded the 2GB file size limit for IBM Access Manager for eBusiness (as ITAM is a 32bit application).

Most commonly, this will be the webseal msg log... but it could also be any of the other enabled webseal output logs, such as the request.log , access log, etc...

Locate the log that has reached this limit, rename it (and then archive or compress), then restart WebSEAL.
