webMethods Knowlegebase : Broken Pipe Errors (1716831)

Troubleshooting

Problem

As with any application which deals with network based communication, the Integration Server may encounter "broken pipe" errors while processing requests.

The error essentially means that a socket connection (pipe) between the Integration Server and some network asset has been severed.

This type of error occurs when an application attempts to read/write using a socket connection which has been unilaterally closed.

Since it is not logical to attempt to read/write using a socket that the application (Integration Server) has previously closed, another application is usually at fault.

Common causes for "broken pipe" errors include:

- Firewall idle timeouts.

- Network instability.

- Application that the Integration Server was communicating with.
