Web Query - DataMigrator - Specify which IBM i schema Sample Data is created in

Question & Answer

Question

When I follow the DataMigrator for i documentation to create sample data on the IBM i, the tables are being put into a library that I did not expect. How can I specify the library?

Cause

DataMigrator for i Create Tutorial Sample Data process is using the CURLIB parameter on the IBM i *USRPRF that is connecting to DMC (Data Management Console)

This can be changed on the Create Tutorial Framework dialog box

Answer

From the DMC, right click on Application Directories -> Tutorials

This brings up the Create Tutorial Framework dialog box

a. Change the "Tutorial" to match the type of sample data you want

b. Leave DB2 for the "Select DBMS:" parameter

c. Make sure you have *LOCAL for the "Select Connection:"

d. The "Prefix for SQL Tables" will have a prefix that varies based on what you specified on step a.

* Add the library you want to contain the sample data before the prefix already there, separated with a slash *

e. The "Application" parameter is used to specify where the synonym information is stored with the IFS

f. Select Create

In this example, we are creating the sample tables for the 'DataMigrator - Star Schema' and the .acx and .mas pieces of the synonym will be stored in /qibm/userdata/qwebqry/apps/ibisamp.

The actual tables, etc., will be created in the library we specified on step d, ibisamp. The names start with DS. For example: DSINV (Inventory), DSHR (Human Resources), DSSTORES (Stores)

Note you may need to use a period instead of a slash on step d.
