How To
Summary
You want to add a GPU node to your current Watson Studio Local cluster and you are not sure how?
You are not sure if you can "add" the node without having to re-install the cluster?
Do you need to install a driver to be able to use the node as GPU?
How can you check if the node is being recognized as a GPU node?
Objective
How to add a GPU node to a new or existing Watson Studio Local cluster?
Steps
The procedure is the same as adding a compute node, refer to the documentation:
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-add-computedeployment-node-existing-watson-studio-local-123x-cluster
https://www.ibm.com/support/pages/how-add-computedeployment-node-existing-watson-studio-local-123x-cluster
Make sure to install the necessary drivers for GPU as documented:
https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/watson-studio-local/1.2.3?topic=requirements-gpu
Then the GPU node is ready to be used either through the fresh install of Watson Studio Local or by utilizing the Add-node utility through the Watson Studio Local UI for an existing cluster.
The dashboard should show that the compute node you added has a GPU. If it doesn’t, the driver might not be setup correctly. To check this, go to the Admin Console > Nodes and verify if you see the GPU(s), for example see below screen shot:
