Warnings generated by the DataStage Oracle Enterprise Stage using UTF8 NLS_LANG setting

Troubleshooting

Problem

Possible truncation warnings generate by the Oracle Enterprise Stage using UTF8 NLS_LANG setting

Symptom

If you have a DataStage job that contains a Varchar field in an Oracle Enterprise stage that reads from an Oracle UTF-8 database.

For example a field named col1 with the definition set with datatype Varchar(50) in the datastage job and also setting NLS_LANG=ENGLISH_UNITED KINGDOM.AL32UTF8.

This can generate the below example warning in the DataStage job log:

Message: When checking operator: When binding output interface field "col1" to field "col1": Implicit conversion from source type "string[max=200]" to result type "string[max=50]": Possible truncation of variable length string.
