Question

What is WOL (Wake up On Lan) utility and how I enable it in AIX box?

Answer

WOL enable or disable the function that powers on a system remotely through
A local area network (LAN) connection.

You can power on a system remotely through a local area network (LAN) connection.
The Wake on LAN standard can be enabled for logical partition configurations as well
As nonpartitioned environments.

To enable or disable the Wake on LAN standard, complete the following steps:
Note: Ensure your system is in Normal mode in the Power on/off system | System operating mode option.
1. On the ASMI Welcome pane, specify your user ID and password, and click Log In.

2. In the navigation area, expand Power/Restart Control and select Wake On LAN.

3. Select either Enable or Disable from the selection list.
By default, the state for the Wake on LAN standard is Disable.

4. Click Save settings to save the selected options
