Troubleshooting

Problem

Resolving The Problem

Source: RETAIN tip H165117

SYMPTOM:
If the system powers up (fans running) but the power LED is still flashing on the front of the box as if the system were in standby, the system is being held in reset. A Voltage Regulator Module (VRM) error is a prime cause for this.

PROBLEM ISOLATION AIDS:
- The system is a Netfinity 5000 server, Type 8659, any model.

FIX:
1) Check that if VRM is installed, there is an upgrade CPU present. If not, remove VRM.

2) Check that if upgrade CPU is present, there is a VRM installed.

3) If both VRM and upgrade CPU are installed, replace VRM.

4) If problem is still present, replace Planar (suspecting on-board regulator).
