Resolving The Problem
VPN Document Collection
To collect documentation for VPN connection problems, do the following:
| 1. | End and restart the VPN server. |
| 2. | To start a communications trace on the Ethernet line, on the operating system command line type the following: STRCMNTRC CFGOBJ(XXXXX) CFGTYPE(*LIN) MAXSTG(32M) USRDTA(*MAX) TEXT('VPN trace') where XXXXX is the name of the line description that the VPN traffic is sent/received on. Press the Enter key. |
| 3. | Start a TCP application trace. On the operating system command line type the following: TRCTCPAPP APP(*VPN) ARGLIST(ALL) Press the Enter key. |
| 4. | Start another TCP application trace. On the operating system command line type the following: TRCTCPAPP APP(*L2TP) Press the Enter key. |
| 5. | Re-create the problem. |
| 6. | End the communications trace. On the operating system command line type the following: ENDCMNTRC CFGOBJ(XXXXX) CFGTYPE(*LIN) where XXXXX is the name of the line description that the VPN traffic is sent/received on. Press the Enter key. |
| 7. | End the two TCP application traces. On the operating system command line type the following: TRCTCPAPP APP(*VPN) SET(*OFF) Press the Enter key. Then, type the following: TRCTCPAPP APP(*L2TP) SET(*OFF) Press the Enter key. |
| 8. | Format the communications trace. On the operating system command line type the following: PRTCMNTRC CFGOBJ(XXXXX) CFGTYPE(*LIN) CODE(*ASCII) FMTTCP(*YES) FMTBCD(*NO) where XXXXX is the name of the line description that the VPN traffic is sent/received on. Press the Enter key. |
| 9. | To find the three-part name of the active job, on the operating system command line type the following: WRKJOB QTOKVPNIKE Press the Enter key. Then, type the following: DSPJOBLOG JOB(yyyyy/QTCP/QTOKVPNIKE) OUTPUT(*PRINT) where yyyyy is the number of the active job. Press the Enter key. |
| 10. | Repeat Step 9 for the job QTOVMAN. |
| 11. | Print a list of the PTFs on the system. On the operating system command line type the following: DSPPTF OUTPUT(*PRINT) Press the Enter key. |
| 12. | Collect the output. They should be spooled files. Run the WRKJOB command, and select Option 4 to find all the files just created. |
| 13. | Send the files to ibmi_support@ecurep.ibm.com, and put the PMR in the subject line. Note: If the system is running at V7R1 or higher, repeat Step 9 to collect the QTOKVPNIK2 job log. |
