VMM/Hyper-V target fails validation. Logs show failure to get a response from KDC (Kerberos) domain controller servers to allow authentication

Troubleshooting


Problem

A failure to validate a Hyper-V/VMM target may be due to being unable to get a response from the Kerberos Domain Controller to allow authentication to the target

You may see the following messages in the logs when troubleshooting: 

mediation-vmm-5588b78d76-j9g4f: 2021-05-28 22:30:47,573  WARN [sdk-op-1032] [AbstractCachedConnectorFactory]    : [<vmm_server_fqdn>:Discovery] Could not get connector with 'VmmCredentials [username=<username>, target=<vmm_server_fqdn, port=5985, hash=-1095192748]' credentials to remove it from factory
mediation-vmm-5588b78d76-j9g4f: Caused by: com.vmturbo.platform.VMTRoot.OperationalEntities.Mediation.Connectors.windows.wsman.transport.auth.kerberos.KerberosAuthenticationException: Cannot authenticate ‘<username>@<DOMAIN>.COM' user in ‘<DOMAIN>.COM' domain

mediation-vmm-5588b78d76-j9g4f: Caused by: java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Receive timed out

The following may also be seen: 

2021-01-26 06:18:50,521 INFO [SrvRecord validator #0] [KRB5]    : [<target_name>:Discovery] Kerberos LDAP :: The KDC <kdc_server_fqdn>:88 is rejected until re-validated in background
