Problem

This technote explains why the error, This Key is already associated with an element of this, occurs when attempting to open a document in IBM® Rational® RequisitePro®.

Symptom

The full error message is as follows:
Visual Basic Run-time Error: '1' This Key is already associated with an element of this collection(ReqPro10.RegisterReqProDoc.Main,1,457)

Cause

This issue is commonly the result of the Normal.dot template being corrupt, which is used by Microsoft® Word® as the global document template.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this problem, the Normal.dot needs to be regenerated:

Close RequisitePro and Microsoft Word
Perform a search for Normal.dot on All local hard drives
Delete ALL instances of Normal.dot that are returned in the search results
After deleting all instances, open Microsoft Word and then close
The opening and closing of Microsoft Word when there is no existing Normal.dot templates on the local system causes the Microsoft Word to generate a new Normal.dot template.
Open up RequisitePro and you should be able to open the document without any errors
