Question
Viewing predicted traffic conditions
Answer
Viewing predicted traffic conditions
The transportation prediction feature of the solution providesa forecasted view of the traffic situation for a city or region. Providingthe optional transportation feature is installed from the Operator: Traffic viewyou can see the predicted traffic levels of a set of road links forup to one hour into the future.
The transportation prediction feature providespredictions for traffic flow based on measured traffic data for aset of road links. It uses the current and historical traffic datacollected by the IBM? Traffic Information Hub togenerate a prediction for each link for a future point in time. Datais retrieved from the IBM Traffic Information Hub every5 minutes to generate traffic prediction data.
Providing thereis at least three months of road link data you can predict the trafficflow levels for the next 510153045 and 60 minutes from thecurrent time period. The current time period is rounded to the nearest5 minutes. For example if the time is currently 12:03 you can seewhat the forecasted traffic levels will be like at 12:05 12:10 12:15.520833333333333 12:45 or as far ahead as 13:00 hours. Predictions are generatedevery 5 minutes based on the last 5-minute mark.
The resultsare displayed in the timezone that is set in your client browser configuration. You must ensure that your browser timezone configuration matches thetimezone of the geographical area for the transportation network.
The predicted traffic levels are color coded and displayedon a geographical information system (GIS) map of the traffic networkproviding a visual representation of the forecasted traffic conditionsfor a road link or region. You can view more details about the predictedtraffic levels in the list.
You can also view a summary of thetraffic prediction data on a graph report. For information about howto run and view the traffic prediction reports that are availablein the solution see the related links at the end of this topic.
