Troubleshooting
Problem
Non-standard characters such as Kanji are not visible when selecting data in a PuTTY session.
Resolving The Problem
The following is an example of the modifications required for viewing Kanji characters in PuTTY. You may need to make additional modifications depending on the viewer (reflections, secure ssh) that you are using.
1. Start PuTTY. The PuTTY Configuration window appears.
2. In the Host Name (or IP address) field, enter an IP address for the machine that you wish to log into.
3. In the Category frame, select Translation.
4. In the Character set translation on received data list, select UTF-8.
5. In the Category frame, select Appearance.
6. In the Font settings area, click Change. The Font dialog box opens.
7. In the Script list, select Japanese. If Japanese is not an available option, select a font such as @MS Gothic or @MS Mincho that has a Japanese script option available. Click OK.
8. Click Open to log in to the system.
9. From within your NPS nzsql session, enter the following command:
set nz_encoding=utf8
For additional information regarding nz_encoding for kanji character sets, refer to Chapter 7 of the Netezza Performance Server Database User's Guide.
