Viewer Tracking on IBM Video Streaming

General Page

This article explains how to use the Viewer Tracking feature in IBM Video Streaming and IBM Enterprise Video Streaming to monitor audience engagement across live and on-demand content.
It covers viewing engagement metrics, tracking individual viewer activity, reviewing video details and watch percentages, accessing related broadcasts, and downloading detailed viewership reports for further analysis.

Viewer Tracking is available for IBM Video Streaming and IBM Enterprise Video Streaming accounts. When you are logged in to your account, you can access viewer tracking from the Tracking menu in the dashboard.

From this menu, you can review who watched your videos, including both on-demand and live content, across every channel.

Video Engagement

The Video Engagement section provides recorded and live show data, including the number of unique viewers who watched each video.

In the Video Engagement menu, you can organize and search your data by:

  • Channel
  • Title
  • Type, such as live or recorded
  • Creation date
  • Labels, such as live or recorded
  • Keywords in video titles

Browser back and forward navigation is supported, allowing you to return to previous searches without waiting for the page to reload.

When a live broadcast is in progress, the Processing status appears in the viewers column.

When you open the live details page, you can see who is currently watching the show. This view does not update automatically and requires a manual refresh.

If you change the broadcast title during a live stream, the video record is renamed using the most recent broadcast title. If you record the show separately or are looking for the auto-recorded video, it will not be available until the stream has ended.

Video Details

The video details page provides useful information about your show.

Header Information

The header includes:

  • Creation date
  • Duration
  • Video type
  • Number of unique viewers

On-Demand Video Details

When viewing the details of an on-demand video, you can click Edit in the header to open the Video CMS page.

You can also access a preview video link. Selecting the preview link allows you to preview the video and find the direct URL.

Video Timeline and Viewer Data

Below the video details, a timeline shows unique viewers grouped into 10 segments.

Below the timeline, you can review viewer information, including:

  • Viewer identifier, usually an email address depending on the authentication setup
  • Date the viewer last watched the video
  • Percentage of the total video length watched by that viewer

Note: Reaching 100% watched can be difficult, especially for short live streams, because viewers may join after the stream begins or leave before the stream ends.

The viewer list cannot be reordered, but you can change the number of rows displayed.

Related Videos

The video details page also shows related videos.

  • If you are viewing a live stream details page, related videos are the auto-recorded videos from that live stream.
  • If auto-recordings were split into multiple files, they appear in chronological order.
  • If you are viewing an auto-recorded video, the related video links back to the live stream details page it originated from.
  • If you are viewing a manually recorded or uploaded on-demand video, No broadcast found appears.

Clicking a viewer redirects you to the viewer details page. If the content is a recorded video, the related broadcast is shown. If it is an uploaded video, No broadcast found appears.

Viewer Details

The Viewer Tracking section lists viewers who watched your videos or live broadcasts and provides details about their activity.

Viewer Details Page

The viewer details page shows which videos and live broadcasts were watched by a specific viewer.

On this page, you can review:

  • Videos and live broadcasts watched by the viewer
  • The last time each video was watched
  • The percentage of each video watched

You can sort viewer activity by time or title.

Download Full Report

Each tracking page allows you to download a report containing raw records from the viewership logs.

After downloading a report, the download button is temporarily disabled to help prevent multiple accidental downloads.

For more details, refer to the report explanation page.
