Very slow (several minutes) to open a Data Entry form, if a different Excel report (for example TM1 Perspectives report) is open (in the background) too

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches Excel. User opens a (non-Controller) Excel report.

  • For example, the user logs onto TM1 Excel add-in, and then opens a TM1 report (inside Excel).
User then switches to 'main' Controller client, and clicks "Company - Data Entry". User chooses parameters, and clicks 'Open' (to open the data entry form). There is now a long delay (approximately 2-5 minutes)
  • During this time, if the user switches to Excel then they can see (in the lower-left corner) messages such as 'Working', 'Analysing Sheet' and 'Fetching Values'
Eventually (after several minutes) the Controller Data Entry form appears.

NOTE: The problem is not specific to TM1 reports. A similar symptom occurs if the user has any Excel report open (in the background) - in other words, any report where (if you click F9) it would take a long time (for example 1 minute) to run/complete.

Symptom

Very slow opening of a Controller data entry form (if the user has an Excel report open in the background simultaneously).

Example:

In one real-life customer example, it took between 2 and 5 minutes to open the Controller data entry form (depending on the size/complexity of the TM1 report).
