Problem

This technote explains what the error, Version data file had the wrong length (expected: #, found #), means as it relates to the cleartext container of an IBM® Rational® ClearCase MultiSite® VOB during synchronization and provides instructions to resolve the issue.

Symptom


Note:
As of ClearCase releases (Fixpacks) 7.0.0.2 and 7.0.1.1 and later, the condition described in this technote has been downgraded from an Error to a Warning. On export a packet will be generated. A packet generated with a Warning at a 7.0.0.2/7.0.1.1 or later exporter will still cause an error on import at a VOB server that is running an earlier fix level.

Refer to APAR PK53268 for further details about this change. IBM Rational advises that these warning messages should be addressed as described below. The behavior change is so that critical synchronization is not delayed.

multitool: Error: Could not complete synchronization request: error detected by ClearCase subsystem.

Note: This error has a positive number or zero for the found value and references the cleartext container (c/cdft) as the directory.

  • If the reference is to a source container (s/sdft) and the value of the found section is a positive number refer to technote 1221903.

  • If the reference is to a source container (s/sdft) and the value of the found section is zero refer to technote 1221902.
