IBM Support

Using smbclient to Access IBM i NetServer File Shares

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document describes the smbclient, smbmount/mount.cifs, and smbumount/umount.cifs Linux utilities.

AS-IS, not supported by IBM i support, as this is a Linux/Unit utility.

Resolving The Problem

This document describes the smbclient utility

smbclient
o Is an ftp-like command line interface used to move files between SMB/cifs client and servers.
o Very familiar to FTP users (get, put, dir, and so on).
o smbclient commands can be used in shell scripts just like ftp.
o Most commonly invoked:
$ smbclient //systemname/share –U username
o Type: smbclient --help for full syntax
Example
$ smbclient --option='client use spnego'=no //<IBMiName>/<sharename> -U <usrprf>

Enter <usrprf>'s password:
Domain=[SEAWOLF] OS=[I5OS V7R1M0] Server=[i5OS Support for Windows Network Neighborhood]
