Using a screen reader to access the dialog descriptions in the CICS event binding editor

Question & Answer

Question

How do you access the description area of a dialog box in the CICS event binding editor using a screen reader?

Answer

When using the CICS event binding editor there are a number of input dialog boxes. These are generally for creating or editing input data such as event specifications, capture specifications, application data for event processing. These dialogs are all accessed from buttons on the main user interface (UI) panels. For example, the “Add…” button on the event binding panel.

After clicking on a button, the dialog box appears and gains focus. The cursor focus is placed on the first input box, thus meaning a screen reader will announce the name of the dialog box followed by the name of the input box.

The title area of each of the dialog boxes includes alerts about any invalid fields. If there are no invalid fields it also has a description of what information is to be added to the dialog box. To access the information in this area using a screen reader you must back tab (enter Shift+tab) once from the original entry point of focus.
