Using QFileSvr.400 file system.

Troubleshooting

Problem

This document contains basic information about the QFileSvr.400 file system.

Resolving The Problem

This document provides some general information on using the QFileSvr.400 file system on the IBM OS/400 or IBM i5/OS system. Detailed information on IBM i file server file system (QFileSvr.400) can be found on the IBM i Knowledge Center. Simply visit http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/ssw_ibm_i, select your operating system, and search on keyword QFileSvr.400 for complete details.

Description of QFileSvr.400

This file system allows the user to easily create a link to the Integrated File System directories on another OS/400 or i5/OS system.

Requirements

  • The QSERVER subsystem must be active on the target machine.
Message: CPFA0E7 - System cannot establish a communications connection with a file server.
Cause: An attempt was made to perform an operation on object /QFileSvr.400/RCH770A that required interaction with a file server. However, the attempt to establish a communications connection with the file server was rejected by the remote system. One of the following has occurred:
-- The file server is not active on the remote system.
-- The version of the file server on the remote system may not be supported by the local system.
  • Your user-ID and password must match between the source and target IBM i systems. Additionally, the system value Password level (QPWDLVL) must also match between the source and target IBM i systems. A mismatch between the systems will result in the user receiving the following message:
Message: CPFA09C - Not authorized to object. Object is /QFileSvr.400/RCH770A.
Cause: You do not have the correct authority for object /QFileSvr.400/RCH770A or for one of the directories in the object path.

Verifying if a Link exists
From the IBM i command line, verify the link you are about to create does not exist under the QFileSvr.400 directory, by issuing the following command:
    WRKLNK '/QFileSvr.400/*' or WRKLNK '/QFileSvr.400/RemoteSystemName'

Creating a Link
Use the MKDIR or MD command to create a new "Object link" (directory) under the QFileSvr.400 file system. The name of this directory should be either the TCP/IP host name or the SNA system name for the remote system:
    SYNTAX: MD DIR('/QFileSvr.400/RemoteSystemName')
    EXAMPLE: MD DIR('/QFileSvr.400/RCH770A')
Once the directory is successfully created, you should receive the following message:
Message ID: CPCA083 - Directory created.
Cause: Directory /QFileSvr.400/RCH770A was successfully created.

Now when you run the WRKLNK '/QFileSvr.400/*' command, you should see your newly created directory under QFileSvr.400 file system. Select Option 5 on your directory to access contents of the target system.
