Using the Microsoft Windows Firewall with IBM WebSphere Application Server

Troubleshooting

Problem

The following supported Microsoft® Windows® operating systems have a built-in, host-based, stateful firewall: [

    ] [
  • ]Windows 7[
  • ] [
  • ]Windows Server 2008 and Windows Server 2008 R2[
  • ] [
  • ]Windows Vista™[
  • ] [
  • ]Windows XP with Service Pack 2 and later[
  • ] [
  • ]Windows Server 2003 with Service Pack 2 and later[
  • ] [
] The Windows Firewall is enabled by default for the Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7 operating systems. The default behavior for the firewall in the Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7 operating systems is to block all incoming traffic unless it is solicited or unless it matches a configured rule for the firewall. All outgoing traffic is allowed unless it matches a configured rule. In the Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, and Windows 7 operating systems, you can also configure the firewall to drop outgoing traffic. The default settings for the firewall affect network connectivity to IBM WebSphere Application Server Version 7.0 running on those Windows operating systems.
