Question & Answer
Question
Are there any considerations for using the FILELIST parameter of the RESTORE NODE command?
Answer
When performing NAS backup or restore operations using Tivoli Storage Manager NDMP, the following rules need to be followed in regards to the FILELIST parameter:
- 1. The folder path and file name must be specified using forward slash (/) symbols
2. No ending forward slash (/) is needed at the end of the file name argument
3. Multiple arguments must be separated by commas
4. Arguments containing a space must have double quotes (" ") surrounding the argument
Example (this is all one continuous argument):
- FILELIST="/path/to/filename1 with blanks",/path/to/filename2_no_blanks,"/path/to/filename3 with blanks again"
The following items should be considered when specifying the FILELIST parameter when executing the RESTORE NODE command to perform a file level restore.
- Filenames which contain spaces anywhere in the path or filename itself should be enclosed within double quotes.
- "C:\TSM test files\file1.txt"
"C:\TSM\file 1.txt"
- File level restore using the RESTORE NODE command on the Tivoli Storage Manager server will cause the filer to scan all of the full and differential images for files to restore. For this reason, file level restore can take an extended period of time.
- Volumes may or may not be taken off-line when performing a file level restore. The filer is performing the actual restore, whether the volume remains on-line or is taken off-line is a function of the filer. In our testing, NetApp and EMC filers were not observed to take volumes off-line for file level restores. The filers may behave differently in different environments, testing in your specific environment is recommended.
