Using the engine config to optimize a gateway interface

Question & Answer

Question

Are there any variables/parameters that I can use or update in an engine config pm file, to optimize a gateway?

Answer

The following are some possible areas in which you can utilize and update onto your gateway configuration. Please note, that this needs to be tested out and confirmed if it suits your environment.

1) Review your Engine Config pm file to confirm the number of files that are to be processed, per cycle of execution. For example:

NUMBER_OF_FILES_TO_PROCESS => 200,

This will control the number of resultant PIF files are generated in the intermediate directory and ultimately the LIF files. You will need to adjust the value accordingly based on the volume and/or number of gateways you have per interface involved. Please note to not have this number too small or to large as it will contribute to more overhead for the gateway to start up and process files present. Testing this out to determine the ideal value would be good.

2) Additionally in the Engine Config pm file, you can also set the following variable:

NUMBER_OF_PROCESSES => xx

This enables parallel processing, although this value set is dependent on the number of processor on the server, so please take note and update accordingly.
