Troubleshooting
Problem
This document describes how to use a BRMS system name in a High Availability environment.
Resolving The Problem
This document describes how to use a BRMS system name in a High Availability environment. When using this, BRMS no longer uses the NETWORK ID and Default local location in DSPNETA for media and history ownership. For additional information, refer to the following Web site.
https://helpsystemswiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IWT/pages/165642459/The+BRMS+Products+and+Licensing
Note: BRMS files should never be journaled or replicated using replication software. If this is done, upgrades of the product and application of PTFs may fail.
Procedure to Use a BRMS System Name
Do the following:
To display the BRMS system name, type the following command:
QSYS/CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('BRMSYSNAME' '*DISPLAY' )
or type WRKPCYBRM *SYS, select Option 4, and the BRMS name will be in the upper right corner of the screen.
Users can now create a host table entry or a DNS entry with this new BRMS name for BRMS communications. When the system is added back into the BRMS network, the new BRMS system name should be used. RDB entries for the BRMS name will have to be created as well.
Reverting Back to the Regular Name
To revert back to using the regular name, do the following:
https://helpsystemswiki.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/IWT/pages/165642459/The+BRMS+Products+and+Licensing
Caution: It is required that the system is taken out of any BRMS network before this is done. To remove a system from the BRMS network, follow Rochester Support Center knowledgebase document:
After the BRMS name is changed, run the command INZBRM *CHGSYSNAM or type WRKPCYBRM *SYS, select Option 4, and remove the original system name with the *RENAME option.

Note: BRMS files should never be journaled or replicated using replication software. If this is done, upgrades of the product and application of PTFs may fail.
Procedure to Use a BRMS System Name
Do the following:
1. |
Verify that BRMS - Advanced Feature is installed on all systems that will use a BRMS system name. If you are using 5770-BR1, you will need to make sure you have opt 2 installed. If you are using 5770-BR2, then it is included with in the *BASE product.
|
2. |
Make sure BRMS PTFs are current on all systems in the network.
|
3. |
Type the following commands:
Note: There are three parameters for the following commands: Parameter 1: BRMSYSNAME is the keyword Parameter 2: *SET Parameter 3: This is the BRMS name that will be used for ownership, and so on. It has a maximum of 8 characters. In the following examples, it is BRMSSYSA or BRMSSYSB. We will set SYSA have the BRMS system name of BRMSSYSA and set SYSB have the BRMS system name of BRMSSYSB. On System SYSA: QSYS/CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('BRMSYSNAME' '*SET ' 'BRMSSYSA') *Set creates a data area and stores BRMSSYSA as the system name. From this point, the user can type DSPNETA and change any attribute as it will not affect the BRMS network; BRMS will use BRMSSYSA for the system name output file processing and for all BRMS operations. On System SYSB: QSYS/CALL QBRM/Q1AOLD PARM('BRMSYSNAME' '*SET ' 'BRMSSYSB') *Set creates a data area and stores BRMSSYSB as system name. From this point, the user can type DSPNETA and change any attribute as it will not not affect the BRMS network; BRMS will use BRMSSYSB for the system name output file processing and for all BRMS operations. |

Reverting Back to the Regular Name
To revert back to using the regular name, do the following:
1. |
Remove the system from the BRMS network
|
2. |
Delete the data area QUSRBRM/Q1ABRMSYS.
|
3. |
Sign off the session and then sign back on again.
|
4. |
On the operating system command line, type the following command:
INZBRM OPTION(*CHGSYSNAM) PRVSYSNAM(BRMSNAME) NEWSYSNAM(*LCL) Press the Enter key. |
5. |
Add the system back into the BRMS network:
BRMS Networking: Adding, Removing, or Renaming a System |
Note: When adding the system back into the BRMS network, if the Receive Media Info parameter in the system policy was previously set to *LIB, the saved history will no longer be on the other systems in the BRMS network. To sync the save history information, users can follow this document:
Adding Saved History to a System That Has Just Been Added to a BRMS Network
Note: In order for this to work, you will need RDB entry names on all systems in the BRMS network and also need to be able to PING the new BRMS name from all systems in the BRMS network.
Note: It is important to note that once the BRMS system names are set, when adding DNS or host table entries for the new BRMS system names that these use a static IP address that will NOT change during a role swap.
Note: Before adding the systems back into the BRMS network verify that the media and save history look good (WRKMEDBRM and WRKMEDIBRM) on each system.

Note: Any assistance with BRMS network setup in an High Availability Environment is out of scope for the support center and would require a Consult Line Contract.
