This document describes a possible cause and solution to a system policy error message returned when testing a data source connection to DB2/AS400 in IBM Cognos 8.
User is able to connect directly through ODBC Test utility.
Same user credentials used in a Data Source connection signon in Cognos Connection will fail with error message:
[IBM][iSeries Access ODBC Driver]Communication link failure. comm rc=8500 - System policy does not allow use of this data source. Contact your system administrator.
Checking the system policy shows no restrictions for the user.
Test the user id to connect using Impromptu works.
Monitoring the activity in AS400, the user appears to login successfully.
