User not automatically logged onto Excel link when using Controller client Excel-based functionality (for example Data Entry), leading to 'Security Error 1' errors

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches the main Controller client. User clicks on an Excel-related item (for example the 'X' that launches Controller Link, or perhaps 'Company - Data Entry - Reported Values). This causes Excel to launch (as expected). However, if the user looks closely at the Excel session, they can see that they are not logged into the Controller Excel link. - In other words, to use the Excel link, they need to click "Controller - Logon". Furthermore, they also find: - They get errors trying to open a Data Entry form - The user that they logon to 'main' Controller client is not the same user that is presented to them inside the Excel link logon screen

Symptom

There are several symptoms that occur as part of this problem:

Example #1
When trying to open a Data Entry form, user gets the following error:

  • Server was unable to process request ... Security Error 1


Example #2
If the user logs on to the main Controller client as one user (for example 'ADM'):

 

  • ...when they try to logon to Excel link, they find that they always are asked to logon as a different user (for example 'TEST'):
