Preventive Service Planning
Abstract
Upgrading to DB2® Connect Version 9.5 might require migration of your environment components. These components are DB2 Connect servers, DB2 servers, clients, and database applications. Migrating these components requires an understanding of the DB2 products migration concepts and the DB2 products.
This document will help you navigate through the available information and resources related to upgrading from DB2 Connect Version 8 and Version 9.1 to DB2 Connect Version 9.5 .
Content
Your first point of reference to learn how to create a migration plan and how to migrate each component of your DB2 environment is the Quick Beginnings for DB2 Connect Servers and the DB2 Migration guide. The most high level topic is Migration to DB2 Connect Version 9.5.
You will find that migration topics for DB2 Connect servers reference migration tasks for DB2 servers because they are exactly the same tasks for DB2 servers and DB2 Connect servers.

Prerequisites
If you are upgrading from DB2 Connect Version 7 or earlier, you need to upgrade to DB2 Connect Version 8 first.
Ensure that you meet the operating system and hardware requirements for DB2 Connect Version 9.5 described at Installation requirements for DB2 database products, and the prerequisites for connectivity to supported host and iSeries data servers described at Recommended Service Upgrades for DB2 Connect targets.
Review the changes in Version 9.5 to existing functionality from previous releases that can impact your migration:

If you are migrating from DB2 Connect Version 8.1 to DB2 Connect Version 9.5, you might need to address the changes and conversions that happen when you install DB2 Connect Version 8.2 (DB2 Connect Version 8.1 FixPak 7) or a higher level on a DB2 server that already has DB2 Connect Version 8.1 installed up to FixPak 6 level, in addition to the changes in upgrading to DB2 Connect Version 9.5.
Review the Discontinued and deprecated functionality sections in the DB2 Connect enhancements summary topic to determine if you have to discontinue the use of functionality that is not supported in DB2 Connect Version 9.5.
If you are upgrading from DB2 Connect Version 8, review the Discontinued and deprecated functionality section in the What's new for V9.1: DB2 Connect enhancements summary topic to determine if you have to discontinue the use of functionality that is not supported in DB2 Connect Version 9.1.

Planning migration for your environment requires that you determine a strategy on how to approach the migration of your environment and create a migration plan that includes all of the migration process details.
Determine all of the migration process details for each component in your environment that you need to know to write your migration plan. For each component, you must include in your migration plan:
