Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to execute an action whose name is a long double byte characters results in the error ' SQL statement = "insert into history ...." ' when updating a record in the IBM Rational ClearQuest.
Symptom
- Open a schema in Rational ClearQuest Designer.
- Create a new action with over 15 double byte character long in a record type.
- Test or Upgrade the schema in a vendor database (IBM DB2, Oracle or Microsoft SQL server).
- Log on the associated user dabase in ClearQuest Client.
- Open a record and execute the new action.
- See one of following errors and not able to proceed the action.
For Microsoft SQL server:
SQL statement = "insert into history ...."
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]String or binary data would be truncated.
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The statement has been terminated.
For Oracle server:
ERROR! SQLExecDirect RETCODE=-1, State=S1000, Native Error=12899 SQL statement="insert into history (dbid.entity, dbid.entitydef_id, entityde_name, user_name, action_timesstamp.old_state, new_state.comments) values (33554505, 33554435,16777224,'Defect','admin',' << ACTION_NAME >> ', {ts '2009-03-05 21:59:02'}, 'Submitted','Submitted', 'AP1 +09:00')"
[DataDirect][ODBC Oracle Wire Protocol driver][Oracle]ORA-12899: value too large for column "CQJAUSER"."HISTORY","ACTION_NAME" (actual:50, Maximum:30)

An error occurs for IBM DB2 server, but you might see a different error message.
