Topic: Runtime considerations
Change description: Add PAGEMON, PAGEMONL, SORTL, and SWCRYPT to the Default installation options that you can override at run time section.

You can specify the DYNALLOC, OPTMODE, PAGEMON, PAGEMONL, SORTL, SWCRYPT, and TUNEMSG parameters at run time.

PAGEMON

This parameter specifies the type of DB2 Sort storage allocations.

Syntax

>>-PAGEMON-- = -+-ON--+----------------------------------------><

                '-OFF-'

Options

·ON: Choose if your system is highly sensitive to paging activity.

·OFF: Choose if you use the default options for DFSORT's DSPSIZE, HIPRMAX, and MOSIZE installation.

PAGEMONL

This parameter specifies the maximum amount of memory that the DB2 Utility can use.

Syntax

>>-PAGEMONL-- = -+-nM--+----------------------------------------><

Option

·nM: This value specifies the maximum memory in megabytes that the DB2 Utility (including DB2 Sort) can use. n can be a value from 0 to 8,388,607. A specification of 0 will make DB2 Sort to use the maximum amount of memory available.

SORTL

This parameter specifies the use of IBM Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort with DB2 Sort, which can help reduce CPU usage and improve elapsed time for eligible sort workloads.

Syntax

>>-SORTL-- = -+-YES-+----------------------------------------><

              '-NO--'

Options

·YES: Enables the use of IBM Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort.

·NO: Disables the use of IBM Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort.

SWCRYPT

This parameter specifies whether to use encryption for SORTWORK data sets with DB2 Sort.

Syntax

>>-SWCRYPT-- = -+-YES-+----------------------------------------><

                '-NO--'

Options

·YES: DB2 Sort will encrypt all SORTWORK data sets.

·NO: DB2 Sort will not encrypt any SORTWORK data sets.

Topic: DB2 Sort messages
Change description: Add two new messages: CNK558I and CNK560I.

CNK558I SORTL INSTRUCTION USED

Explanation: DB2 Sort used IBM Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort in this sort subtask.

System action: None.

User response: No action is required.

Parent topic: DB2 Sort messages.

CNK560I SORTWORK ENCRYPTION USED

Explanation: DB2 Sort used encryption mode for SORTWORK. All data in SORTWORK data sets is encrypted.

System action: None.

User response: No action is required.

Parent topic: DB2 Sort messages.

Update 2
Date of change:
April 2015
Topic: Default installation options
Change description: Add a new default installation option, SNAPDUMP:

  • Generation of SNAP dump option

    This value specifies whether DB2 Sort generates a SNAP dump in the event of an ABEND during a sort or merge operation.

    SNAPDUMP
    • YES
      Enables the generation of a SNAP dump when an ABEND occurs in a sort or merge operation. YES is the default.

      NO
      Disables the generation of a SNAP dump when an ABEND occurs in a sort or merge operation unless the DEBUG run time parameter is specified.

Update 1
Date of change: March 2015
Topic: Default installation options
Change description: Add a new default installation option, PAGEMONL:

  • Limiting memory usage option

    This value specifies the maximum amount of memory that can be used by the DB2 utility.

    PAGEMONL
    • nM
      Specify the maximum number of megabytes of memory that the DB2 utility (including DB2 Sort) can use. n can be a value from 0 to 8 388 607. A specification of 0 causes DB2 Sort to use the maximum amount of memory available. The default value for n is 0.
