Update Status Page

Use the Update Status page to change the shipment status. Sterling TMS provides awide variety of shipment status entries which you can use to trackthe progress of your freight during the shipping workflow.

For example common Shipment Status entries include:

  • Loaded
  • Departed
  • Arrived
  • Unloaded

Note: Use the Update Status page to move the status to thenext step in the shipping process. Use the Edit page to revert theshipment or order to the previous step in the shipping process. Torevert the shipment status click Edit on the Active tab.

Fields on the Update Status Page

Use thefollowing fields on the Update Status page to manage the shipmentpickup and delivery:

Status Event

Select the status for this stop:

  • For a pickup stop you can choose Arrive Load Readyto Ship or Depart.
  • For a delivery stop you can choose Arrive Unloador Depart.
  • Forthe last delivery stop on the route you can also choose DropLoaded Trailer. The shipment status changes to Spotted.

When shippers and carriers view the shipment status in theExecution module Sterling TMS displaysthe following information:

  • The status such as Departed or Arrived.
  • The location where the status event occurred.
Event Date

Enter the date and time the status event occurred. SterlingTMS uses the following default dates:

  • When you set the Status Event to Departthe planned departure date is shown.
  • When you set the Status Event to Arrivethe planned arrival date is shown.
Dock Number

Enter the optional number of the shipping or receiving dock.

Trailer/Container Number

Enter this reference field ifyou want to track it for your records.

The Trailer/ContainerNumber must be 10 characters or less and cannot contain an asterisk(*).

If you enter more than 10 characters Sterling TMS cannot sendit in EDI transactions.

Reason Code

Definea reason code to explain the update:

  1. Select the Reason Code Group such as Shipper Carrieror Weather.
  2. Select a Reason Code from the second drop-downlist. The list is filtered based on the group you selected.
    Note: Ifyou enter a status event that is outside the planned departure windowor planned arrival window you are required to select a reason codeand group.
Remove Status Event Updates

Youcan remove any updates that were submitted for a status event:

  1. Select the Status Event that you want toremove.
  2. Select the Remove Status Event Updates checkbox.

For example you might set the status to Arrived andthen want to change the arrival date and time later.

Notes:
  • Shippers can remove status updates their carrier submitted. Carrierscan remove status updates the shipper submitted.
  • You can only remove status updates online. You cannot remove statusupdates using an EDI transaction.
  • Carriers can also use the Edit page to revert a shipment to theprevious status.

Rules for Updating the Shipment Status

Thefollowing rules apply to updating the shipment status:

  • The Load event is optional. You do not have to mark a stop asLoaded before you mark it as Departed.
  • The Unload event is optional. Once a stop is set to Arrived itis considered complete.
  • Once a stop is set to Departed do not change it to Loaded. SterlingTMS leaves the status as Departed.
  • Once the stop is set to Unloaded do not change it to Arrived. Sterling TMS leaves thestatus as Unloaded.
