Unique constraint violated error when modifying an attribute in Project Properties

Troubleshooting


Problem

This technote identifies a possible resolution to the error, unique constraint violated, which might occur when modifying an attribute in the Properties of an IBM® Rational® RequisitePro® Project.

Cause

The full error message is as follows:

[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-00001: unique constraint (REQPRO.RQPROJECTHISTORY_PK violated)
-Unable to execute statement.
-Unable to add project history.
-Unable to update the project in the database.

This issue is generally the result of having duplicate attributes in the RequisitePro database.

Resolving The Problem

To resolve this issue perform the following procedure:

  1. From RequisitePro go to File > Project Administration > Properties and select the Attributes tab.
  2. Select the Requirement type of the Attribute you were modifying before the error message appeared.
  3. In the list of attributes that appears, look for duplicate attributes.
  4. If one is found, modify or delete the attribute so a duplicate no longer exists.
