Problem
Using Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) to boot to a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) aware Operating System (OS) may fail on a network with jumbo frames enabled. The error displayed may vary, but will generally be one of the following: PXE-E07: Network device error. PXE-E16: No offer received. PXE-E18: Server response timeout. PXE-E99: Unexpected network error.

Symptom
Using Preboot eXecution Environment (PXE) to boot to a Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) aware Operating System (OS) may fail on a network with jumbo frames enabled.
The error displayed may vary, but will generally be one of the following:

Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM Servers:
- System x iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, type 6380, any model
- System x iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, type 7321, any model
- System x iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, type 7323, any model
- BladeCenter HS22, type 7870, any model
- System x3550 M2, type 7946, any model
- System x3650 M2, type 7947, any model
The system is configured with at least one of the following:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Datacenter 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Enterprise 64-bit, any service pack
- Microsoft Windows Server 2008, Standard 64-bit, any service pack
This tip is not option specific.
Note: This does not imply that the network operating system will work under all combinations of hardware and software.

This behavior will be corrected in UEFI Firmware revision 1.01 or later.
The target date for this release is scheduled for second quarter 2009.

Additional information
The default frame size used by the UEFI PXE driver can cause problems on a network with jumbo frame support enabled.
