Symptom
A network device was detected in the startup sequence that was
not added, either with the Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) or from
within the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) F1 setup
menu. This device might be named NIC1:PXE4, or a similar name.
This network device is the one from which the server previously
performed a network start.
Affected configurations
The system can be any of the following IBM servers:
- IBM MessageSight Appliance, type 6188, any
model
- System x3550 M4, type 5459, any model
- System x3550 M4, type 7914, any model
- System x3650 M4 HD, type 5460, any
model
- System x3650 M4, type 7915, any model

Solution
If this device is found in the startup sequence, it can be
removed by going into the UEFI F1 setup, or by using the
efibootmgr command. These are the steps for device
removal in the UEFI F1 setup menu:
- Invoke the UEFI F1 setup menu.
- Click Setup Menu -> Boot Manager -> Delete Boot
Option.
- Select the device to remove using the Space Bar.
- Commit the changes.
- Restart the system.
