UNC path syntax in Rational Statemate

Question & Answer

Question

Can you create a databank or workarea in IBM Rational Statemate using the Uniform Naming Convention (UNC) syntax "\\host\directoryname" instead of default Windows syntax "drive letter:\directoryname"?

Cause

You may prefer this UNIX-like syntax as you do not need a drive letter to assign to a shared network folder.

Answer

UNC syntax in Rational Statemate has not been tested for all components and integrations. There is no syntax check when entering a workarea or databank path. You are strongly recommend not to use UNC paths.

Known problems with UNC path workarea are:

  • Saving of temporary files or snapshot files may cause error messages
  • Export to IBM Rational DOORS may cause DXL (DOORS eXtension Language) server error messages
