Unable to open XPS-formatted files from FileNet Application Engine (Workplace)

Problem

Attempt to open and view XPS document via Workplace results in an XPS Viewer crash.

Symptom

  • Windows XP SP3:

    Retrieve XPS document from Workplace and open (without first saving to disk) causes XPS Viewer to crash.

    Retrieve from Workplace but first saving the content to local disk before opening is okay

    Open an XPS document stored on local disk is okay.
  • Windows 7:

    No XPS Viewer crash using any of the above methods.

Cause

XPSViewer defect.

Environment

Windows XP SP3

Resolving The Problem

  1. Acquire XPSViewer hotfix KB 975666 (search for "The XPSViewere.exe crashes") from Microsoft.

  2. Ensure XPS Viewer version is 3.0.6920.1427 (bundled with .NET Framework 3.5.0 SP1). If the installed XPS Viewer version is newer than 3.0.6920.1427 (e.g., 3.0.6920.4021), reinstall XPS Viewer.

  3. Then apply XPSViewer hotfix KB 975666.
