Troubleshooting
Problem
- OpenPages UI has an anchor tag with href of.
This URI is built according to this documentation. https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office/client-developer/office-uri-schemes.ms-excel:ofe|u|https://localhost:3334/app/api/msOfficeFile/_nbqCbKTR_-xmdHqvualsyXcTbFaQgOVXPEc4X1xgpbarV3ID_Z1NcRt8T2-pDYD/14584/<excel-file-name>.xls - OpenPages calls this URI, the browser opens a dialog asking to open this URL with Excel. If the user says yes, it passes that URI to Excel. If the checkbox is checked, the browser does not ask again, and open with Excel.
- Office 365 desktop products like Excel and Word then try to open a file on a WebDAV server that uses the URI mentioned in Step1.
- As Client Certificate Authentication is enabled, WebDAV server asks client (Here client implies MSOffice desktop products) to provide a certificate. Correct certificate is not installed at the client and the user is prompted to choose a certificate from a list that contains certificates that do not match what the server is asking for. The user is forced to choose one of the inappropriate certificates, which is then rejected by the server. If instead they select Cancel from the Select a Certificate dialog, the process to open the file is cancelled entirely.
- As of now, there is no way to pass any client certificate to the URI mentioned in Step 1 with the ms-excel or ms-office protocol.
