Resolving The Problem
This document describes the importance of tagging the proper Load Source IOP or IOA for an OS upgrade.
During a V6R1M0 to V7R1M0 upgrade from IBASE_01 CD, the option to install is selected, and then a screen is shown which indicates a load source; however, none of the drives listed are the actual LS or mirror copy. After selecting one of those drives, it says it is not able to be used as a Load Source, and the Load Source DASD and mirror are not found.
The problem was HMC tagging. If the screen says that it cannot locate a disk unit to be a Load Source candidate, this may imply the incorrect tag for the IOA or IOP which controls these Load Source. In a DM or DN IPL, only disks which are under the TAGGED IOA or IOP are eligible Load Source candidates.
