Troubleshooting
Problem
Some operating systems do not support CD/DVD drives using the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI), but instead require the use of the IDE interface. While installing an operating system, a prompt may ask if you want to install any custom drivers. After selecting 'Yes', clicking 'Add', then removing the operating system installation CD and inserting the driver CD, the following error message is displayed (example is for VMware): The CD provided is not valid VMware ESX Server Driver CD

Symptom
Some operating systems do not support CD/DVD drives using the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI), but instead require the use of the IDE interface. While installing an operating system, a prompt may ask if you want to install any custom drivers. After selecting 'Yes', clicking 'Add', then removing the operating system installation CD and inserting the driver CD, the following error message is displayed (example is for VMware):
| The CD provided is not valid VMware ESX Server Driver CD |

Workaround
Go into the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) settings and change the CD drive interface setting to "IDE" following these steps:
- Press F1 at the UEFI splash screen while the system is booting,
- Select System Settings, select Devices, select I/O Ports, and then select Configure the on-board SATA ports as.
- Press Enter to display a selection list.
- Use the arrow keys to select IDE and press Enter.
- Press ESC twice to back out to the System Configuration and Boot Management Screen.
- Select Save Settings and press Enter.
- Select Exit Setup.
Additional information
Some operating system versions do not recognize the CD drive when the drive interface is set to "AHCI" in the UEFI settings, which is the default. The fix is to go into the UEFI settings and change "AHCI" to "IDE".
