Troubleshooting
Problem
Attempts to edit a diagram result in error when using IBM Rational Requirements Composer: ERR RRCXPluginAppFramework::createVM Failed to create the JVM. Exiting.
Symptom
The following error is seen when you click the Edit button.
The editor could not be started.
ID CRRRW7386E The editor could not be started because the Editor Runtime Environment is not available. Uninstall the Browser Add-on Plug-in, restart the browser, and reinstall the plug-in to resolve the issue.
Also, you will see the following message in the log file after tracing is enabled.
https://jazz.net/wiki/bin/view/Main/RRCBrowserAddOns#3_Trace_Logging
ERR RRCXPluginJavaApp::openResourceURL Error starting the plugin runtime environment: osgiFailedToStart. Aborting.
Cause
One possible cause for this is an existing version of the JRE being utilized in the browser while trying to Edit a diagram.
Diagnosing The Problem
Confirm if there are multiple JREs running.
Resolving The Problem
A browser cannot launch multiple instances or versions of JRE. If a JRE already is being used, Rational Requirements Composer will not be able to use the packaged JRE to edit the diagram. One way to start a browser to ensure that no JRE is being used is to go to Start -> Run and use the following command to open the browser.
