Troubleshooting
Problem
FileNet Content Engine unable to delete Content Cache Area, The object cannot be deleted because it is referenced by other objects
Symptom
Attempting to delete a Content Cache Area using FileNet Enterprise Manager may fail, indicating "The object cannot be deleted because it is referenced by other objects "
Cause
The error will occur if the Content Cache Area is assigned to the P8 Domain / Site / Virtual Server or Individual Server level. By default the lowest level ( Individual Server) will inherit from the levels above in order up to the P8 Domain unless, 'Override Inherited Settings is selected at any level in between.
Resolving The Problem
- Inspect the various levels noted above and find where the Content Cache Area is still assigned ( Content Cache tab -> Selected Content Cache Area shows the name of the Cache Area).
- At the respective level, click on the Properties tab and then for the for the Subsystem Configurations property choose, Object (Content Cache Configuration) from the drop down under, Property Value. Another window will be displayed, titled, Content Cache Configuration Properties.
- Click the Properties tab and then for the Content Cache Area property you will see the Property Value is set to the name of the Content Cache Area.
- Right click on the value and choose Unset, then Apply. This action will unassign the Content Cache Area.
- After the content cache area no longer figures in the Content Cache tab -> Selected Content Cache Area in any of the levels described above ( P8 Domain / Site / Virtual Server or Individual Server ) then proceed to delete the Content Cache Area object.
