Problem
IBM® Tivoli® Common Reporting 3.1 in Jazz for Service Management throws an exception while trying to install Tivoli® Common Reporting by using the installer.exe|bat|sh
Symptom
IBM® Tivoli® Common Reporting 3.1 in Jazz for Service Management throws an exception while trying to install TCR. When clicked, installer.exe|bat|sh to install TCR, it displays the following error, 'Could not create Java virtual machine error' and blocks the installation process.
The same exception is displayed when you try to run the installation in silent or console modes by using install.bat|sh.
Cause
The actual problem is in the Java Runtime Environment Virtual Machine(VM) pack bundled with the TCR Installer. The JVM error can be caused by invalid UTF-8 input, which is either specified on the command line or present in the system variables. The invalid UTF-8 input causes the JVM to access system properties before they are fully initialized. "
The following exceptions are displayed in the Java at runtime:
Exception in thread "main" java/lang/Error: bootstrap error, system property access before init: com.ibm.IgnoreMalformedInput.....
Resolving The Problem
Check the system environment variables to find for any malformed characters and correct them by following these steps:
1. Open a command window.
2. Enter the set command to list the environment variables that are set in the system.
3. Review the list of environment variables and look for any malformed characters in the values. For example,the PATH environment variable contains an invalid Ä UTF-8 character.
On Windows systems: C:\PROGRA~1\IBM\SQLLIB\SAMPLES\REPLÄCE
On UNIX systems: /opt/ibm/db2/V10.1/SAMPLES/ REPLÄCE
The malformed character causes the installation program to throw the following exception:
'Could not create Java virtual machine error'.
