Unable to create a Data Source Name on 64-bit versions of Windows Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7

Troubleshooting

Problem

When creating a project in the RequisitePro client for Web (RequisiteWeb) in an enterprise database on previous versions of the Windows® operating system, the user had to create a Data Source name (DSN) with the ODBC Data Source Administrator and then create the new project with that DSN. On 64-bit versions of Windows Server® 2008 R2 and Windows 7, the ODBC Data Source Administrator changed and no longer supports the connections that RequisiteWeb requires.

Symptom

The ODBC Data Source Administrator does not show the full list of DSN drivers. The only one displayed is for Microsoft® SQL Server®, and this driver is not recognized by RequisiteWeb.

Resolving The Problem

To solve this issue, you have to run the 32-bit version of the ODBC Data Source Administrator by opening the odbcad32.exe file, which is located in directory %systemroot%\sysWOW64. This version can create a 32-bit DSN, which works for the RequisiteWeb client .
