'Unable to cast COM object of type ... QueryInterface call on the COM component ... Interface not registered ... 0x80040155' error launching Excel link from Controller, caused by 'orphan' registry key

Troubleshooting


Problem

User launches 'main' Controller client (ccr.exe). User clicks the green 'X' button ('Controller Link').

An error appears.

Unable to cast COM object of type 'System.__ComObject' to interface type 'Microsoft.Office.Core.COMAddIn'. This operation failed because the QueryInterface call on the COM component for the interface with ID '{000C033A-0000-0000-C000-000000000046}' failed due to the following error:  Interface not registered (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80040155)
at Cognos.Controller.Forms.Common.fFrmFrangoFunc.InitExcelLink
