Symptom
When the operating system (OS) is installed into a hard drive (HDD) connected to an on-board Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) controller, the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface(UEFI) boot path will be missing after system board replacement and Advanced Settings Utility (ASU) setting restore.
Affected Configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- System x3550 M4, type 5459, any model
- System x3550 M4, type 7914, any model
- System x3550 M4, type 7914 E5-xxxxV2, any model
- System x3650 M4, type 7915 E5-xxxxV2, any model
This tip is not software specific.
This tip is not option specific.
The system has the symptom described above.
Workaround
Manually set UEFI boot path under boot manager of UEFI menu.
Additional Information
GUID for UEFI boot patch is a unique ID associated with RAID volume and SAS card. After system board replacement, UEFI boot path GUID changes as the on-board SAS has changed and is different from the UEFI back setting file. Users need to manually set the UEFI OS boot path after system board replacement.
