Troubleshooting
Problem
On all machines with integrated 10/100 Ethernet controllers there will be two LEDs embedded in the 8 pin modular connector on the rear of the system. One is orange and is located nearest the power supply and the other is green. In addition, there is a green LED located on the front of MOST of these models.
Resolving The Problem
Affected configurations
- IBM IntelliStation M Pro (6888, 6898), IntelliStation Z Pro (6899)
On all machines with integrated 10/100 Ethernet controllers there will be two LEDs embedded in the 8 pin modular connector on the rear of the system. One is orange and is located nearest the power supply and the other is green. In addition, there is a green LED located on the front of MOST of these models.
The description of these LEDs follow:
| Green(rear) | Orange(rear) | Condition |
| OFF | ON | (1)No cable connected (2)Faulty cable (3) No crossover in connection |
| ON | OFF | (1)Good connection at 10Mbps |
| ON | ON | (1) Good connection at 100Mbps |
| OFF | OFF | This condition has not been observed |
The Green LED on the front panel of most of these models is an activity indicator. It will activate whenever the controller RECEIVES traffic. On a heavily used network it should blink continuously while on a on a quiet nework it will remain off. It does not blink when the machine is transmitting data.
