Abstract
Beginning in IBM Rational ClearQuest 8.0.1.2, the new Tree View feature is available in ClearQuest Web.
Content
The Tree View feature presents the parent and child records in the same result set page. This provides a way to see the status of child records conveniently. The ability to see child records together with parent records in a results set was already available in the ClearQuest Eclipse client. Differences between the ClearQuest Web and ClearQuest Eclipse client implementation are described below.
User Interface (UI) Changes - Before Expanding
After you run a query, each row in the result set will have a plus (+) icon in the front of the first real field column. All records have the plus icon although some of the records may not have child records. When the plus icon is clicked, the Tree View feature determines whether child records exist.
If the display column order is changed, the plus icon will still be in the front of the first real field column.
We suggest that the display field list starts with the “id” field for stateful record types, and the unique key fields for stateless record types.
Expanding Records
Click the plus icon to expand a parent record. The plus icon changes to minus icon.
If the record has child records, the reference field group name is shown in the next level, indented relative to the row above it. If the group row is expanded, the child records are shown in the next level and are also indented relative to the field group name.
Only reference list and back reference list field types are supported.
The unique key is shown in the first real field column if the child record type does not have the same field as the first real field column of the query.
If all the reference list fields are empty, nothing is shown after clicking the plus icon in the parent record.
The field group name is shown only if the reference list field has a value.
If the child record type has the same fields as the display columns, the fields are shown in the matching columns. Otherwise, those columns in the child row will be empty.
Index and Column Changes
The index of child records is presented in different levels, as 1.1, 1.1.2, or 1.2.3.4.5, where a period and number is added for each level.
The index width is automatically aligned with its contents.
The first real field column width is automatically aligned to the width of its content.
Single Record Operation
For the parent or child record, one left-click opens it directly.
For the parent or child record, one left-click on the index column opens it directly.
Context menu items, including Open In New Window, Copy, Add to ClearQuest Favorites, Bookmark, Email, and Print, work as usual for both parent and child records. All context menu items are disabled for the field group row.
Multi-Record Update
Multi-Record Update is available only for the top parent records. The Multi-Record Update item in the context menu is disabled for child records.
Create Query from Selection
Create Query from Selection is enabled for all stateful records. The selection can include records from different levels, provided the record type is the same.
Selection Changes
If one record is collapsed, it is selected and any other selections on parent or child records are removed. This behavior is the same as that of the ClearQuest Eclipse client.
If one record is expanded, it is selected and any other selections on parent or child records are removed. This behavior is the same as that of the ClearQuest Eclipse client.
After you perform sort, rerun, or refresh actions, if the records are expanded and any parent or child records are selected, any selections on child records are removed and any selections on parent records are retained.
Toolbar and Sort
All Toolbar items, including Previous, Next, Refresh, Edit Query, Export, Printable Version and Customize Columns, are available only for the top parent records.
If no child records are expanded, sorting a column works as usual. If there are expanded children, changing the sort order collapses all children before the row order is changed.
Full Text Search
Full Text Search works as usual. The results are not shown as Tree View style.
Differences from ClearQuest Eclipse client
This feature is intended to function as the similar feature in the ClearQuest Eclipse client. The implementation in the ClearQuest Web client has the following differences.
- Attachment and History child records are not shown.
- Recursive references are shown (ClearQuest Eclipse omits the parent in any of its child lists).
- Each row is identified with an unique index.
- The first real field column width is automatically aligned to the width of its content after collapse.
- The expansions below a row are lost when that row is collapsed.
