Question & Answer
Question
When AFS returns an error code, for example: afs: failed to store file (78) how can I determine what that error code means?
Answer
Use the translate_et tool to translate the error code to text.
This tool is located in C:\Program Files\IBM\AFS\Client\Program\ on Windows systems and in /usr/afsws/bin/translate_et on unix systems.
From a command prompt issue the command:
translate_et <error_code>
This will provide you with the text message corresponding to the error code. Error codes lower than 100 can usually be found in the file /usr/include/sys/errno.h on unix systems.
