Sterling TMS usesthe following process for obtaining or calculating transit times.The diagram assumes the shipment mode is LTL.

The following workflow provides more detail for the correspondingdiagram numbers from the transit time process diagram:

1. Sterling TMS searchesthe transit time tables for a matching lane for the shipment. Sterling TMS uses the followingcriteria to match the lanes:
   • Carrier or SCAC including linked carrier records
   • Most discrete lane definition
   • Movement parameters which include movement type service typemode and equipment
2. If Sterling TMS findsa matching lane in the transit time table this lane is used for thetransit duration.
3. If Sterling TMS doesnot find a matching lane in the transit time table the system requestsa transit time from CarrierConnect. This step requires that your organizationis profiled to use CarrierConnect. The shipment must also be an LTLshipment.
4. If CarrierConnect does not return a time or your organizationis not profiled to use CarrierConnect Sterling TMS uses yourorganization profile to calculate the transit time:
   • If the mode of the shipment is Truckload or LTL Sterling TMS uses the CalculateETA Using XX MPH setting to calculate the transit duration. Sterling TMS divides thedistance by the profiled vehicle speed and adds in the necessarydriver breaks. The system also checks the carrier profile to determineif weekends should be included in the transit time.
   • If the mode is something other than Truckload or LTL Sterling TMS sets the transitduration equal to the profiled Planning Time Window Duration.

Sterling TMS goesdirectly to the standard truckload transit calculation under any ofthe following conditions:

• The shipment does not have a carrier.
• A carrier linking record is not found.
• The shipper does not use the CarrierConnect service.
