Transfer rate difference when using Secrue+ versus not using Secure+

Is there a transfer rate difference between using SSL/TLS encryption via Secure+ and not using encryption via Secure+?

The answer is yes, there can be a difference in the transfer rate for an encrypted file versus a non-encrypted file, but not always.

On the PNODE and SNODE, Secure+ encrypts and decrypts the file 'on the fly' as the file is being copied.

There are no standards that can predict what the time difference will be for a given environment,  a given file, and the nodes involved in the transfer. There are too many variables involved.

Examples of contributing variables:
CPU capabilities of the nodes.
Operating System on the nodes.
Connect:Direct version on the nodes.
Other applications running on the nodes.
Bandwidth and quality of the network connection between the nodes.
Compression level used on the file during transmission.
Encryption method used - some ciphers take longer to encrypt/decrypt.
The size of the file being copied.

These are just some of  the variables that can contribute to the total time it takes to transfer a file from one node to another.

One would need to use a network sniffer to take measurements of various file transfer rates to establish a baseline for comparison in one's own environment and then determine what is acceptable for a transfer time.

An idea for copying extremely large files (multi-gigabit) is to encrypt the file before a Connect:Direct copy process using another method for the encryption, then have Connect:Direct copy the file without Secure+ enabled, then decrypting the file on the other side. This saves the time it takes for Secure+ to do the encryption/decryption.
