Abstract

The Tivoli Storage Manager server installation wizard fails to catalog databases during v6.1.X reinstalls or v6.2.X upgrades on Windows platforms.

Content

Problem:
The “Local database directory” value for the database might have gotten corrupted during a DB2 v9.5 fix pack installation. If you installed a version of Tivoli Storage Manager server earlier than v6.1.3, and then later installed a Tivoli Storage Manager server v6.1.3.X, your DB2 v9.5 will also have a fix pack installed. As a result, the corrupted “Local database directory” value will affect Tivoli Storage Manager server v6.1.X reinstalls and v6.2.X upgrades.

Who is affected:
Tivoli Storage Manager server users reinstalling v6.1.X, or upgrading to v6.2.X on Windows platforms.

Recommendation:

  • Tivoli Storage Manager Server v6.1.X reinstalls:

  • Manually correct the “<installationPath>\Instance.dat” file by updating the “DatabasePath” values with the correct drive before reinstalling the Tivoli Storage Manager v6.1.X server.
  • Tivoli Storage Manager Server v6.2.X upgrades:

  • See Circumventions.

Circumventions:
Locate and open the “<installationPath>\Instance.dat” file. Use the “Instance.dat” to obtain the values needed to catalog and upgrade the databases.
  • Tivoli Storage Manager Server v6.1.X reinstalls:

  • If the install wizard fails to catalog the databases during a TSM v6.1.X reinstall, please follow these steps:

Issue the following commands for each InstanceName:
    1. db2cmd
    2. Set DB2INSTANCE=<InstanceName>
    3. db2start
    4. db2 catalog db <DatabaseName> on (Correct drive for database)
    5. db2stop
  • Tivoli Storage Manager Server v6.2.X upgrades:

  • If the installation wizard fails to catalog the databases during a TSM v6.2.X upgrade, please follow these steps:

Issue the following commands for each InstanceName:
    1. db2cmd
    2. Set DB2INSTANCE=<InstanceName>
    3. db2start
    4. db2 catalog db <DatabaseName> on (Correct drive for database)
    5. db2 upgrade db <DatabaseName>
    6. db2stop
This problem is address by APAR IC67693 and will be availabile in Tivoli Storage Manger Server versions 6.1.4 and 6.2.1.
