Symptom
User attempt to telnet to the Integrated Management Module (IMM) Service Processors (SP) Command Line Interface (CLI) ends in failure. Depending on the telnet application being used a error message similar to the following would be displayed:
| Connecting To 111.222.333.444...Could not open connection to the host on port 23: Connect failed |
Affected configurations
The system may be any of the following IBM servers:
- iDataPlex dx360 M2 Server, type 7321, any model
- BladeCenter HS22, type 7870, any model
- System x3550 M2, type 7946, any model

Solution
A user that experiences the above symptom, after applying AC power or resetting the IMM, should be able to connect successfully within six (6) minutes. An application or script that fails to establish a telnet connection should add a small delay and retry the connection until its successful.
Additional Information
Telnet connections fail because the IMM network stack is either busy at the time the request was received or the IMM's network stack is still in it's initialization phase and is not ready to establish connections yet.
Adding delays and retrys to the scripts or applications that issue telnet requests will allow the IMM's network stack to free up and give it the opportunity to establish connections and return success.
There is no IMM firmware change planned to address this issue.
