TCP/IP File Transfer is Slow - Linespeed, Duplex Problem

Troubleshooting

Problem

File Transfer Slow - Linespeed Duplex problem

Resolving The Problem

Problem: TCP/IP file transfer is slow. The problem could be seen with any TCP/IP file transfer (FTP, ODBC,
Mimix, Data Mirror, and so on).

Solution: The problem is due to the mismatch of speed and duplex for the System i Line Description and the
Switch or Hub that the System i is connected to.

If the System i is plugged into a Switch, do the following:

  • End the TCP/IP Interface.
  • Vary off the System i LIND.
  • Set the System i LIND Speed and Duplex parameters to match the settings for the port on the Switch that the System i is plugged into.
  • Vary on the System i LIND, Start the TCP/IP Interface.

If the System i is plugged into a HUB, do the following:
  • End the TCP/IP Interface.
  • Vary off the System i LIND.
  • Set the System i LIND Speed and Duplex parameters to whatever the HUB will support.
  • Vary on the System i LIND, Start the TCP/IP Interface.
